Edge Protection and Lashing Safety Compliance
To ensure safety and efficiency, all vessels arriving at our Jebel Ali Terminals must comply with our safety procedures for edge protection and lashing operations.
- Deficiencies: Any issues with a vessel's edge protection (e.g., missing handrails) must be fixed immediately. If risks cannot be mitigated, DP World will suspend lashing/unlashing operations in the affected area, and the work must be completed by the vessel's crew under the Chief Officer's direct responsibility. A deficiency letter will be issued.
- Crew Responsibility: If edge protection is non-compliant, the vessel crew is responsible for all lashing/unlashing operations. The Chief Officer must provide a signed liability letter.
- Joint Assessment: If there is any doubt about safety, a joint assessment will be conducted by DP World and vessel representatives before operations can proceed.
Safety inspections will be conducted on all vessels. Non-compliance that poses a risk to our people or equipment may result in cargo operations being denied.
